How PermitBasis calculates permit fees

Every estimate comes from a deterministic calculation over each city's published fee schedule. The same inputs always produce the same result, and every line item shows its formula and source.

When a fee component isn't published in a form we can confirm, we mark it Unavailable and leave it out of the total instead of guessing. A partial estimate is labeled as one.

Assumptions

Valuation is the figure you enter. Cities may apply their own valuation method (for example, ICC building valuation data) and arrive at a different fee.
Area means total area under roof, including garages and covered porches where the city counts them.
Trade permit estimates are planning figures. Actual electrical, plumbing and mechanical fees depend on fixture, circuit and equipment counts.
Utility tap, impact, sign, demolition, re-inspection and other agency fees are not included.
Penalty figures show the permit fee multiplied by the city's published multiplier for work started without a permit.

Little Rock calculates building permits by project valuation, not square footage. Work valued at $5,000 or less needs no building fee; above that, a base fee covers the first portion of value and a rate is added for each additional $1,000 or fraction. Valuation comes from the contract or the ICC Building Valuation Data table.
